Earth, Clay, Tile, City (Service Road)

2025

Mixed media ceramic sculpture made with handcrafted clay produced from soil collected in Aguarón and Lechago. Sand, earth, glass and cables gathered from the streets of Madrid. Soil from Aguarón. Plastic harvest bucket.

This work reflects on the material and symbolic journey of resources that travel from the countryside to the city, and on the origin of the materials that shape the urban environment.

Using clay prepared by hand from soil collected in fields, vineyards, and roadside ditches, combined with textures and materials gathered in the city of Madrid — from pavements, grates, doorways, and streets — the piece brings together the rural and the urban, the natural and the constructed.

The work invites an awareness of the physical and existential distance that separates us from the origin of the things we use, reminding us that we are both city and countryside, both matter and movem
